Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, otherwise known as the Moon Festival. The Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese celebrate it, and it dates back over 3000 years to the Shang Dynasty. It is held on the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the Lunar calendar, when the moon is supposed to be at its fullest and roundest. A common pastry of this festival is the moon cake. Traditional moon cakes usually have a yolk center that symbolizes the moon. The Mid-Autumn Festival represents the end of summer and the beginning of the fall season. This week, temperatures have been colder in the morning and at night. I feel like the holiday season is coming - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year! Originally, we planned to eat out today, but my dad discovered it was too crowded. We decided to eat at home. My mom made omelettes with red, yellow, and orange peppers, mushrooms, and sliced pineapple chicken meatballs. We also ate salmon and sweetened tofu-shaped bread for dessert. Then, we ate mooncake. I wish all my family and friends a happy Moon Cake Festival!
