Pre-Chinese New Year!

Today my mom left work early at 3:00 p.m. to go the market for Chinese New Year merchandise. She wasn't surprised to see the market busy and bustling with people all buying things for Chinese New Year. Because New Year's Eve falls on a Saturday this year, she has an opportunity to cook all kinds of great food for our family. :) During Chinese New Year, there are many traditional desserts and sweets you eat like New Year Pudding (Nan Gao), Turnip Cake, and Sweet Candy. Puddings (gao) represent growth and wellness and eating candies will "make you sweet all year round." Other things like oranges and grapefruit are also eaten at this time. I'm excited to see what foods my mom has planned for tomorrow. Hope you all have a nice Chinese New Year!
