Today I had a busy, tiring day performing at the Montebello Concert! First, I was pulled out of class at around 10:45 p.m. I changed into proper orchestra attire, gathered my violin and music sheets, and boarded the bus. The entire Advanced orchestra traveled to Legends, a local diner, to eat lunch and relax. I ordered a small chili cheese fries dish, only to find out it was overloaded! My friend Caroline helped me finish. :) Then we departed to travel to Montebello, which was an approximately 40 min. drive. After a boring drive, everyone set up their instruments. Tuning our instruments is important because without proper tuning, the song will not sound correct. We also had to let our instruments adjust to the cool temperatures inside the building. When it was time to play, my hands got sweaty and I was really nervous. We played on a stage that was shining with bright light. The audience was extremely dark, and we knew we were being graded on our performance. When given permission, we played with as much feeling as we could. I thought the concert was a waste of time because we played only three songs. We also weren't able to hear other schools play. Yet I also think it was a good experience because I had a chance to be on stage and get graded for my work.
It is good to have this experience.
