Squid!

In Science today, we did a squid dissection. It wasn't as gross as the eyeball dissection, because I've seen squid before. Dana (my friend) and I worked together on this dissection. Our first step was to lay out all the tentacles and examine all the body parts. Then, we squeezed the beak out. Surprisingly, a squid has a sharp beak that closely resembles a parrot. Then, we cut open the mantle of the squid to examine in the internal organs. I noticed that our squid was a girl because my squid has yellowish eggs. There were also two hearts, an ink sac, and feathery gills. After looking at all these parts, we cut off the tip of the mantle and slowly pulled out the squid's "spine", the pen. The pen is like plastic that gives a squid structure on its back. We punctured the inc sac, dipped the pen into the black ink, and we wrote messages on our paper! I thought the lab was really fun, and I learned a lot in the process.
